Topic: “Oh no they didn't" How to Address Unethical or Unprofessional Clinician Behavior and The Doctor Did What?!? Talking Sticky Professional Issues
The facts of modern clinical life have caused healthcare professionals to feel burnt out, to cut corners, or to fail to consider the consequences of their actions when rushed or stress. This sometimes leads them to take actions that violate professionalism expectations of the medical staff and of their patients. Historically, these issues have been under reported and under addressed. However, in the current culture, hospital boards are becoming much less tolerant of professional missteps. Failing to address these behaviors can result in significant legal risks and repercussions for the institution.
Medical staff professionals (MSP) need to know how to address clinician professionalism and boundary lapses rather than letting them be swept under the rug. In this session, you will learn about common professionalism lapses, how to strengthen bylaws and other policies to address them, and the array of strategies that are available to medical staff leaders to handle these issues in a manner commensurate with the conduct. This will enhance the ability of MSPs to devise meaningful interventions for professionalism lapses that not only address the conduct, but also give the clinicians skills to avoid future missteps and cultivate positive, respectful relationships with co-workers, patients, and families.
Participants will receive 1 NAMSS CE Credit.🌺
